Hi.....I've built a small site for our company, but I've accepted that I am never going to be advanced enough to handle all issues. I've got some minor problems now that I need help with before I can go live. And down the road I need someone I can contact occasionally to do various tweaks and design improvements. I need someone who is very clear about terms and costs and has references/testimonials to back up their work. I understand this is "small ball" work.....not for everyone. Hope to hear from an interested party. Thanks.....

Pardon me for not knowing what I'm doing. I built my test site on a subdomain (presta.myshop.com). In preparation for going live, I had IM hosting change the subdomain to the primary domain (myshop.com) because when I go live I don't want the url to be (presta.myshop.com). I didn't realize that I wouldn't be able to see the site any longer. So I thought the thing to do was to create another subdomain (test.myshop.com) and continue to use that as my test while I tweaked some things. I created the same subdomain (test.myshop.com) at my registrar and pointed it to the same subdomain at IM. That doesn't work. I could use some help sorting out this mess I've created. Ideally what I think I'm supposed to do is have the primary website (myshop.com) live, and the subdomain (test.myshop.com) as the editor. Otherwise, how do I make changes to my live site without testing them first? Isn't that what the subdomain is for?

Hi....after upgrading from 1.5.6 to 1.5.6.1 I lost the 131 stores on my Store Locator map. All the info is still in ps_stores in php/admin and Store Contacts in BO. Nothing looks different. Error reporting is on....no errors. I'm not advanced enough to know what to do next. I get the feeling it's a simple thing, but I'm not seeing it. Any ideas on troubleshooting this?

So, El Patron, do you have any ideas on what I should investigate to figure out why I have my Store map, but no stores after the upgrade? All the info is in both ps_stores and Store Contacts, as before. I've enabled error reporting and have no errors. Everything appears to be as before when it worked (in 1.5.6). But now, map.....but no stores.

"......works day in and day out like a work horse." That's what I was looking for. So as long as neither the files or the DB change, and there are no problems from the host, then it will work? That's all I care about......if I don't screw with it, it will just keep doing it's thing. Displaying our products and taking orders. OK, I can relax now. Thanks, El Patron.

Hi all.....I've just built the PS site for replacing an existing site that is currently on a paid shopping cart platform. I am right at the point where I can switch, but after experiencing problems with an upgrade and reading daily on the forum about all the problems people have, I'm getting nervous. On a daily basis here on the forum I see reasons why an amateur like myself shouldn't do this. I never have problems with my current platform. It always works. It always takes orders. It's never down. But it has serious design and technical limitations. (hence the desire to switch) I'm wondering how often my new PS site will be down? I can't have that. Once I switch I won't be able to go back if I have ongoing problems with PS. Also, I can't afford a pro to take care of problems as they appear. The one important question I have is this: if I get the site working properly and don't make any more changes or upgrades, will it work consistently all the time? Or will glitches just pop up randomly and interrupt orders? I could really use some feedback from people who have used PS for long periods of time without problems. Is it reliable? Thanks for the reply El Patron. I changed from false to true weeks ago. I was receiving error messages afterward in BO about columns and invalid data. I fixed all that.....no more error messages. Before upgrading I backed up the entire DB and files. (Well, I downloaded a large zip file on my computer so I assume that contains everything.) Should I delete the current ps_stores and re-upload from the old files? Edit: I just checked my host error log and it's empty.

I keep trying to find the simple answer in ps_stores/Store Contacts, but I see nothing obvious. Lat/long matches, everything matches. All data from before (when it worked) is there. Any ideas. Something I need to enable?

I will keep going. But I have had to delay going live for several weeks because my store map isn't working and no one seems to know why. But that's another post. Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi all......I've been trying to get help over on the upgrade forum, but no replies, so let me try here. I upgraded from 1.5.6 to 1.5.6.1 and lost the stores on my map. After some tweaking, I no longer have error messages and all the stores are in ps_stores and Store Contacts. I can't see anything wrong. I feel like it must be something simple, but I'm missing it. Any ideas on what to check?

Update: the date_add column needed to be filled with a start date. I did this and the error message stopped. But I still have no stores displayed on the map. No more error messages. Everything appears correct. I can't see what is going on. Any ideas?............

OK......I had to replace several columns in ps_stores that I had deleted in 1.5.6 in order to make the map work with that version. Now, after upgrading to 1.5.6.1, the error messages were telling me to replace all those columns. I did, and I made all those column error messages go away, except this last one. I can't see what is "invalid" about it. Any ideas? Property Store->date_add is not valid

I don't know what your level of expertise is, but as an amateur myself, I have concluded that updating equals trouble. I won't do it again. I'm still trying to fix things from a recent update to 1.5.6.1. For people like me, who don't automatically know where to look to fix things, or even know how, PS is like grabbing a tiger by the tail. Once I finally get it fixed I won't mess with it again. Honestly, I'm not even sure I'm going to stick with PS. I'm very irritated by it right now. Good luck...
