Charge additional payment on backorder by card

Hi, and thanks for any help.

Our shop sells products that are announced well in advance (sometimes years), so we do not charge customers for their order until stock arrives in many cases. We will set price of a product to £0 (or a small deposit of 10%) and when the customer places an order, the status goes to backorder(paid). They may have items that are in stock in that order, so they are shipped straight away.

However, when an out of stock item comes into stock, we need to be able to send an email to the customer to make additional payments by card to pay the remainder of the product. Is this possible? it may be that this will happen multiple times on the same order until all items are paid off.

We use the stripe module for card payments and are on PS 1.7.6. It used to be that in the stripe module itself, we could take manual payments, but this seems to have gone?

How do others manage this?

Thanks

That's a helpful comment!

Why do you make that comment? In what way am I scamming customers?

We run a model railway business, and the manufacturers announce products months or years in advance, but in limited quantities, so we set the product up so the customer can pay 10% deposit now (or free in some cases) and they pay the remainder later, just before the product is shipped. What part of this is a scam!

I need to know how other people deal with this scenario and how they invoice the customer in a way they can checkout with their card again in an as automated as possible way.

If anyone has any helpful advice, it will be greatly appreciated.
