Search mod

I've found the search in the native 1.7 module fairly poor - one word only, for example, and if someone types in two words (to match an exact product name, say), then it returns results from both and also each word, which is very unhelpful. The example for how to create tags, in Prestashop's information, even suggests using two words for a single tag.

I bought a search module, which has improved presentation, though it relies on the underlying Prestashop search but presents the results in a better way. It struck me, though, that if a space was treated as a character, it would cause the search to look at phrases as well as single words. Is it possible in some way to alter the code to make a space the same value as a character a,b,c, 1,2,3 and so on? Would that not benefit all searchers, whether in Prestashop's search or not?

Is a mod like that possible? Well beyond my capabilities of doing anything like that.
