Category options missing on Product Edit in back office

Version 1.4 upgrade - back office - catalog - categories are there, but when I try to edit or add a new product, there is no option to select the category the product belongs in. When trying to save the product, I get the following error message:

2 errors

1. product must be in at least one Category
2. product must be in the default category

This occurs even when trying to edit a product that shows up successfully from updating.

I realize that v1.4 is not ready yet, but this is the third major problem I've encountered since upgrading!

Someone please help with this!

I've re-installed the whole program several times. As soon as I do a .csv import from my POS terminal, the whole category picker field disappears from the product edit page!!

Then Prestashop won't save the product edits because it wants a category. The categories even disappear from the sample products, yet on the initial "catalog" page the categories are all listed.

I'll second that, same is happening to me to. No clues whatsoever ?
[sOLVED] : after a few consecutive upgrades from 1.3.7 to 1.4 with no luck, I have emptied the DB, did a new install of 1.4 over the old one and re imported the previously saved backup of DB and all of a sudden categories area appearing in the product tab.
