Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction:

I have set up my wife's prestashop www.busymrsb.co.uk to sell her pottery. We don't know the weight of an order and therefore how much a courier will charge until the customer has decided on what they want to buy. Up until now we would package it all up, weigh full order and get a courier price before getting payment.

How do I set up such a way with prestashop?

Or is there a specific plugin (free or for purchase) that would be ideal?

Welcome to the forum and hope you will have successful pottery shop.

Have you set up product weight or dimensions ? Here is guide

Then if you have weight you should check if carrier is defined properly. You can define different weight ranges

with different prices http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS17/Carriers

If you have those two set you should see carrier price in checkout.

 

Note there are also some modules that are getting exact live rate for order so you do not have to

add wight ranges.  You can check here https://addons.prestashop.com/en/518-shipping-logistics

if your carrier is there and have live rates.
