Why does it say we cannot alter the override files in version 1.4?

Hi,

I'm confused about the use of the override files in version 1.4. It was my understanding that they could be used as overrides to core functions. Thus, when you upgrade, those overrides would not be overwritten by the upgrade process leaving your custom changes intact.

When I went to look at the override files, though, I found the following disclaimer indicating that we should not make alterations. See the Disclaimer below:

DISCLAIMER

Do not edit or add to this file if you wish to upgrade PrestaShop to newer
versions in the future. If you wish to customize PrestaShop for your
needs please refer to http://www.prestashop.com for more information.

So, I'm not sure if I just don't understand what the override file is for, or, if I'm misunderstanding the disclaimer. Can anyone help me with this?
