How to order products not explicitly displayed in the home page?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I need following special feature but couldn't figure out how yet. Thanks in advance for any suggestion!

The products under some special category is not displayed under "Categories & subcategories" at homepage. But they will be selectively displayed and ordered after shoppers fill out Q&A;form.

Here is a practical example, there are 5 products (bike/motorcycle/kayak/boat/plane) under special category "sports" which is not displayed in homepage. Therefore shoppers cannot see this special category through normal browsing. When a shopper fills out a sports Q&A;form to show his/her interest is biking, "bike" will be displayed as a suggested product w/ the same display form as normal products. And then he/she can order this product. Hopefully this example is simple and clear.

I tried to disable "display" option for this category in the backoffice. But this category w/ associated products will be wiped out and show non-existence totally. Therefore this is not a good solution.

Thanks again and happy new year!

You can do this using customer groups. Go to Customers > Groups and create a new group "Special". Then go to the Catalog tab, edit the special categories and untick the "Default" customer group and tick the "Special" group. The special categories will then not appear to customers by default. After a customer fills out a form, you can manually edit the customer and tick the "Special" group, then they will see the special categories.

Thank you very much for your help!

By following your suggestion, I do see such special category is displayed conditionally. Here is the situation by specify who can see the special category: Only the registered customers who are authorized by administrator in advance can see this special category only if he/she logged in.

But this is not what I meant earlier. Please allow me clarify my points,
1) This special category itself is never displayed for any customer;
2) Only one product in this special category will be displayed for the customer (not matter log in or not) who filled out one of multiple special Q&A;forms. And the displayed product will only depend on the content of filled form. For example,
--> if the customer filled the form by saying interest is bike ==> Only product "bike" will be displayed
--> if the customer filled the form by saying interest is motorcycle racing ==> Only product "motorcycle" will be displayed

The Q&A;form itself and the logic between the filled content and suggested products have been implemented. My only question is how to display one suggested product itself (not special category) only if the customer (log in or not) filled the form.

Thanks again and happy new year!
