Adding simple background to left and right columns

Hi All,

I have attached images so that you can follow easier. My site currently looks like the attached "without stripes.jpg", I want it to look like "with stripes.jpg".

I have used stripegenerator to create a small 17x17 img that is the blue stripes. What do I need to add to the global.css of my theme to achieve what I want? I have attached an image of what is currently in my global.css also...

any help would be much appreciated

I am trying to do the same.. with a road image.. Let me know when you figure it out please.
