Change logo to .gif from .jpg

I want to put logo.gif (with transparent background) instead of default logo.jpg (as .jpg does not support transparency).

For this, I changed

logo.jpg

to

logo.gif

in header.tpl and uploaded the logo.gif (with transparent background) from BO >> Preferences >> Appearance >> Header Logo.

But, no logo shows up.

Please help.

If you used the uploader in the BO i think that changes it to jpg. You need to upload the file directly through ftp into the /img/ folder
