List of Attributes/Combinations on Category list/product-list.tpl

I've tried adding the code from the products.tpl file and product.php to product-list.tpl and category.php to get the attributes/combinations to list on the category page. How is this done??

I only have 2 options.. original and prints (artwork), so there is no need for a product page.

I have been after a solution for this for a long while, to on avail! I think you may struggle to achieve this, via this forum anyway. If anyone reading this has a resolution I am very interested too.
