Language in Admin, but not in Store

I live in Japan and I'm starting an eStore here selling stuff from the US. I would like to have both Japanese and English available in the admin section, but I only want Japanese on the front end.

I figure I have the option of setting Japanese as the default language and with just using CSS I can hide the language selector on the store, but is there any way to configure this?

If I disable the Display Language Block Module and I have the default language set to Japanese, the front end still shows up in English. Is that simply because I viewed previously in English and there's a cookie set somewhere?
