Best practice for client backups

Hi all,

What the best way to maintain a good backup system for clients whom i have installed a PS solution.
At the moment all i do is dowlooad the an FTP copy of the shop and do a backup file from PS, is there a more professional and preferably automated system?

Of course it is better to automate backups.
What is your web host?
Do you have the opportunity to create a regular backup directly from this web host. (Dump SQL + FTP)
