peter
Hi, I am very new to prestashop so please do bare with me. My client's currentwebshop is running at Version 1.3.2.3 - 0.147s The previous webdesigner never updated the shop. I do see a notion of Download 1.6.1 but that would mean I have to install it on the server manually? Question 1: is there a safe way without losing anything to update from within the prestashop admin section to a higher version? Question 2: Is it safe/wise to manually add and generate a cookie key to the current prestashop database of the old site? If this is possible would anyone be so kind to help or tell me what to do? I'am uncertain if it would break anything. The new store will be a woocommerce shop, and using a migration tool it states (cookie key is required for users to login in woocommerce with the prestashop password) Since all orders and clients are successfully transfered to the new shop, it's ofcourse not much of a deal to let the users generate a new password when they try to log in again. But still I was wondering if there is any solution. Thanks for your expert advice.
selectshop.at
For 1: yes, and no. For first upgrade you need to do it manually to PS 1.4. See here one of my tutorials for this added years ago to the forum: https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/251288-manual-upgrade-guide-ps-12-ps-13-ps-14-upgrade-only-database/ After you upgraded to PS 1.4. you can use the 1-click-upgrade module. Take the module version 1.6.8. version and upgrade to PS 1.6. As PS 1.7. is in development, it is better you use PS 1.6. as latest stable version. Disable all non-native modules and theme before upgrade. Non-native extras will not work after upgrade. Find 1-click module here: https://addons.prestashop.com/de/datenmigration-backup/5496-.html Check also server requirements before you upgrade. https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/633856-server-requirements-tested-in-production-for-ps-16/ For 2: Prestashop uses cookie keys as by standard (also in version 1.3.) For your question about woocommerce: we do not give support to third party software on Prestashop forum. You should/your customer decide by yourself if you want to use Prestashop or another software. Personally I will opt for Prestashop, which is the more professional solution for shopping carts. If you need further support for the migration, you should hire a professional in both software. I moved several shops from woo to Prestashop, so I'm expert in this, if you need to hire somebody. For the other way: migration to woo I will not do, cause I'm not convinced about this solution as a real professional shopping cart.
