Can I export a module from a paid theme and re use it.

This might be a stupid question.

But I have a purchased theme that has a separate purchased module in it. I cannot find the downloaded module, and I cannot download the module I purchased from the eshop.

Can I export or copy that module into a new theme.  Assuming that PS is of the same version. And that the original purchased module is deleted (so I only have one copy).

Whats the best way of doing this ? or am infringing on copyrights etc.

FMPOV, if you are using it only in one store at a time it's ok in terms of copyrights/morality.

 

BTW, which module is it?

Can I just copy over the module, or do I sort of reverse engineer it into a zip file complete with an index.php

You want to reuse the module for your customers, as agency ? If yes, so the answer is no, if you paid for it. You need to contact the developer and ask for permission.

You mean that if I purchased a module for www.a.com and I change the domain to www.b.com I can not use the module without asking permission?

The message was not really for you. It was simply easier to quote your statement. And yes, this is exactly what is not allowed. You cannot simply take, and of course moreover not as agency - (remark: the initial post is coming from an agency, taking money for to develop/install Prestashop for his own customers) - and simply clone a bought module and use it somewhere. If you bought the module and change your domain, than you should inform Prestashop (deveolper). Modules sold on Prestashop addons are registerd for one URL only.

BTW I made the experience that newer modules you cannot put into another URL. It will fail, cause there is a check of the URL added to the module. Just for to avoid such misuse made in the past.

For free modules there are no rules. Take it and use it.
