Manufacturer displays reference when using combinations

Hi,

This question is related to Prestashop 1.6.0.6

We display the manufacturer on the product page using $product->manufacturer_name. Mainly to include this in our schema.
Thing is though, when using combinations, it displays the reference instead of the manufacturer. Is there a way I can force this to show the manufacturer?
