Noob questions, but loving PrestaShop!

Recommended Posts

I've been trialling various ecommerce packages for ages - zencart, magento, cubecart, God knows what else - and all of them have been terrible. Finally, PrestaShop looks like it can do everything that the others can't!

A few questions:

1. I wanted to delete all the test data before adding my own products. I think I deleted the Categories before the Products. Now I get an Internal Server Error when I go to the Products tab. Any way of resetting it somehow?

2. Is there a way to stop customers from needing to create accounts? Most customers are one-time deals.

3. Is ALL the front-end display dealt with via CSS? I'm trying to work out how to delete some of the boxes (Manufacturers, Specials, etc).

Again, just want to say how impressed I am with PS. Getting any of the others to create a simple shop that adds shipping costs by weight and destination has been a complete nightmare.

Think I've worked out No. 3. Modules > Positions.

I've deleted the whole site and will install it again, so No. 1 is also "solved". But any help with 2 would be great.

The items for sale are printed music, so each entry has: Composer, Title, instruments, Description. Possibly .
Can anyone suggest the best way to deal with these fields, in terms of Categories, Manufacturers, Attributes, Tags, etc?

you need to edit the database to disble the required fields, and edit the autenticathion.php and autentication.tpl to custom your register form

Are these instructions for stopping shoppers from needing to register an account? I'll give it a try.

One other thing: The FAQ says the Legal Notice, Terms & Conditions, etc is in Tools > Languages > Front Office translations, then click on the flag.

However, I can't find them there. I've searched the page for "conditions", Legal", etc and nothing comes up. Visually scrolling through, I can't see anything that fits either. (Yes, I've expanded all the field sets.)

Many thanks. I think this is all coming together now.

One more thing: is it possible to adjust the fields in the user's account? I don't want to ask their birthday or send them newsletters.

Sorry for all these basic questions. I have tried the Wiki first. Is there any other documentation available?

I am really grateful for the effort that has gone into Prestashop. I have come a lot further with it than any of the other carts!

I think that adjusting PHP files is above my pay grade, so I'll leave that alone.

For newsletter you can go to modules, and configure the newsletter here.
and for birthday, you can remove editing the tpl autentication.tpl and remove the birthday data

Now I keep getting a lot of 500 server errors. All permissions are correct.

Is it possible that the Database is corrupt? Is there any way of repairing the DB?
Is there a way to get rid of all the test data - laptops, ipods, etc -- before starting?

I am running in a testing site, given to me by my ISP.

testancientgroove.co.uk

I am not sure that you can access it as it is not on DNS yet. Perhaps that is the problem.

I intend to go live on my real site very soon. Can I just copy everything across and it will still work? The SQL server will be the same.

2. I have put Prestashop in a subfolder from the main site. When you click on the site logo in the front office, it goes to /shop. Where can I change this to ??

I think that these will be the last questions! Hopefully!

Many thanks

Found this!
It's in the file Header.tpl in the theme.
Just change the following line to include "../" in the href tag:
