Struggling to add a header to make prestashop look like my existing website

Hi,

I have a 'header' on my existing web page which I wish to install on the prestashop and I have been at this all day messing with the themes/header.tpl file but it just won't look how I want. (The header repeats down the page, the footer turns to a vertical list, the width is different etc). And coding is really not my field. Attached is the code for the existing header and the the prestashop header.tpl. Can anyone tell me where I can correctly insert the html to make it work?

ok, i have made a jpg of the header - where/how do i put this in the header.tpl file? and where do i add the image to - can anyone help?
