Thinking about moving from CS-Cart to Prestashop - but 1st some quick questions

Recommended Posts

I've been totally unhappy with how CS-Cart handles products and their associated options. It's really not suitable for an online clothing store where you will stock products in multiple sizes and colours.

Before I dive in to Prestashop and abandon CS-Cart I'd like to ask you guys a few questions regarding Prestashop functionality.

1. How does the cart handle products with multiple sizes and colour variations or combinations? is each variation a child of the main product and assigned a unique product number or is it simply parent product -> red size 10? (hope that makes sense)

2. Is it possible to keep track of these product options and view changing stock levels as they are sold?

3. If a product size or colour for example is out of stock will this size of colour combination be removed from the products drop down box or greyed out and unavailable for customer selection?

4. Finally do many of you use it for selling clothing and have you any advice for me?

Thanks guys,
James

1) It creates a new combination of each attribute from each group, if you have 2 groups for a product, color and size, with 5 options in each, you will have 25 unique combinations.

2) Yes, when you add attributes to a product, the stock it managed by each attribute combination.

3) You can set it to behave this way (in the backoffice Preferences->Products)

4) I don't :)

  • 4 weeks later...

be care ful I tried this on presta a while back and the amount of options created can be huge,I liked presta but it really didnt handle option/varients very well as it ground to a halt every time I added some, a few other people at the time were having the same problem but maybe it is fixed now but it caused me to move to CS cart, dont know what your option problems are with cs, I have many clothes and shoes etc in many option combinations and works ok.
I have over 7000 product on CS all with options?

Cs-Cart issues
Tracking Products and all the issues that went with it - hiding stock options when the product is out of stock and having to manage exceptions MANUALLY! So if a product option is out of stock and you don't want it appearing as a choice for the user you've to go off and create an exception for it - joke.

A few other little things like not being able to run a stock report when tracking products. (I submitted a bug and they are resolving this)
