Problem on mobiles - product selection

I am having problems with the checkout / product selection process - only on mobiles. All is fine on a PC.  Running 1.6.1.13 but this problem existed before the upgrade.

Example - i have one product with a default type and then options for different colours.  The different colours have an impact on the price.  When a customer clicks on a product option, only the default combination shows in the cart.

 

This happens on all products with different options.

Any ideas?
