Extract/Get Current Category Name

Hello, I want to get the category name above (just below breadcrumbs), how do I extract it?

I tried gettting the current page link and splitting it, I tried using the code in the breadcrumb, can't make it work.

I am trying to make a custom theme, and so far everything is going well ...now there's a few hickups regarding functionality.
