How to set ''vat number'' field required only for companies?

Hello!

I would like to know how to set  ''vat number'' field required only for companies. In the ''address'' form, this field correctly appears only if a company name is entered, and in this case it is correctly required, but even for non-company users, an error is displayed if ''vat number'' field is not set (note: it does not even appear in non-company address form, so it would be impossible to set in any case).

I've marked it as required in Backoffice->Clients->Address.

(ps. I've installed vatnumber module, but it did not help).

You can check forum, this was discussed before. You have to deal with field validation in authentification controller, but I am not sure.
