Black and White How to make recently viewed the same layout as the 'new products' and 'specials' modules

I'm using the black and white template and would like to have the recently viewed module at the bottom of the page next to the new items. I've started to have a look how to get the layout the same as the new products but guess I'm going to end up messing something up somewhere. I've copied the new products files and am looking through the file and trying to change the references to new products to those for recently viewed.

Has anyone done this before and has the code already (no point me trying to reinvent the wheel only to find out it doesn't roll!), or can someone give me some pointers on what I should be tinkering with.
