Bulk Stock

Recommended Posts

Heya. I am banging my head against the wall on how to manage stock. I'll explain the current state and would love to hear from you pro guys how to solve this.

Explanation:

I am selling barley. It comes in 25kg bags. I have 6 bags, that's 150kg of barley.

I want to sell it by 1kg, 5kg, 10kg and 25kg. So I've created 4 combinations.

Problem is, I need to set stock for each combination.

That means, I have 1kg x 150, 5kg x 30, 10kg x 15, 25kg x 6.

I had to set separate stock for each combination... So now customer can buy 600kg of barley. And I can't let that happen, so for now I'm manually lowering stock for each combination...

Is there a way to sort this so all combinations use same base 150kg stock?

Thank you!!!

I'm not sure if it's possible with combinations, but it is possible with packs. You have a single product that is 1kg of barley, then a pack of 5 x 1kg, 10 x 1kg, etc. You can then go to the Preferences > Products tab and set the "Default pack stock management" to "Decrement products in pack only". I think that will do what you want.

Thank you, rocky, but even this does not solve my problem. See, prices decrease with bigger quantity. For example, 1kg of barley costs 1€, 5kg costs 4,75€, 10kg = 9,2€, and so on. That can't be managed by packages. :(

Also, I don't want "Barley - 1kg" be a single product, "Barley - 5kg" a second one, and so on. We offer tons of different barley (actually it's malt), so it would create a mess on the website.

If you've got any more ideas, I'm all ears.

You can set any price you want for product packs, so you can set the price to 4.75 for 5kg and 9.20 for 10kg. If you're worried about having too many products displayed, you can put all the "Pack" products in a separate category that is not visible to the customer. You can then set the pack products as accessories of the main product, so all of them are displayed on a single page. You can rename "Accessories" to "Pack options" using translations.
