Back Office - Parse Error for FAQ Module after adding "Use SSL" code

I had to add

/* SSL Management */
$useSSL = true;

to my modules/faq.php and modules/faqs.php to get rid of unsecured warnings when navigating from a secure page to FAQ page. Since doing so, I'm getting a "Parse Error" in the back office. Anyone know how to get rid of the error message without losing my SSL management on the PHP files?
