Add to favorites WITHOUT being LOGGED IN

I think there's a reason you can't add favourites when logged out. How would you link favourites to the customer when they don't have an account? It is possible to link the favourites to a guest, but then every time they clear their cookies or log in from a different computer, they will be registered as a new guest and their favourites will become inaccessible. The customer must be logged in to have a permanent way to reference them.

Yes ofcourse i understand this.. But just as the Cart is saved by the cookie the Favorites would be saved same way.. If loged in from another computer or cleared cookies,  well tough luck.  Just dont understand why one should limit the customer/visitor. Set the cookie to 24 days. :)

Is it possible to always display "Add to favorites" (also for unregistered customers) with the pop-up message "Please register first" when unregistered customer click on the link.
