Combinations - general question

Hello Forum,

 

we have 4000 products in the category "Trousers".

 

All of these Trousers/products have the attributes size (14 sizes) and color (7 colors).

So for each Trouser/product we end up with 98 combinations.

 

What is the best possible way to attach these combinations to our whole category "Trousers" and set the correct reference number for each product-combination.

Each combination (e.g. color blue - size L) uses the referencenumber of the Trouser(product) e.g. 12345  and adds a onla suffix 12345-25 to the reference number.
