How do I set a CMS page so its only accessible by a specific customer group

I've already tried editing the cms.tpl following an example which allowed me to make the page inaccessible unless the customer is logged in.

 

How can I get this done. As far as I see, I just need to find the group that the customer is in

 

This seems to make the most sense, however I do not see any reference for getting to even the customer default group. 

 

How can I get this data? Or is there another way around it?
