Image Upload Paths

I am creating my shop with Prestashop 1.6.1.4 and after having successfully created several products suddenly when I upload images the appear as a question mark everywhere except for the thumbnail on the products list in the back office.

 

After having looked through some of the posts on the forum I have noticed a few things:

 

It seems that previously when I uploaded and image a new folder was created in \img\p\... i.e. \img\p\1 \img\p\2 etc inside which were the various sizes of the photo.

 

However now it seems that new uploads are going into \img\p\1\"newfolder" and in the new folder there is only the original image.

 

I had a look under preferences/images and notice that the list is empty, and am wondering if this is the source of my problem.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

What are the file permissions on your img folder?

I have read / write permission on the folders.

 

Not sure if its relevant, My installation is on my local machine.

 

Also I have installed a new instance of prestashop and it works as normal.

 

Using the settings from that I recreated the image_defaults in image preferences and while new images are appearing in the store, the new folders are still being created in the img\p\1 folder rather than creating new folders in img\p\....
