[SOLVED] Will Prestashop still work if I remove Joomla?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm building my Prestashop and all is going well. At the moment it resides in my domain/prestashop. I want www.mydomain.co.uk to go straight to my Prestashop. At the moment it goes straight to my default Joomla Frontpage. I'm not really using Joomla at all. Can I safely remove Joomla, and if I do will my Prestashop folder move to the top of the directory? (I'm using Siteground)

Prestashop doesn't depend on Joomla, so it should work without it. Just delete the Joomla files or move them to a separate directory. Go to the Preferences tab, then change the "PS directory" from "/prestashop/" to "/", then click Save. You can then move all the files in the prestashop folder to the root directory and Prestashop. You'll need to remove the old "/prestashop" path from your .htaccess file. You can go to Tools > Generators and regenerate your .htaccess file or do it manually. Once you've done this, Prestashop should work the same way as it did in the prestashop directory.

Hi Rocky,

Thank you so much for your reply. I have successfully removed Joomla with Fantastico. I've changed the PS directory to / and saved. I've moved the prestashop ( it was in another folder called presta) to the public_html folder at which point it appears in the www folder. Okay so far, but now my admin panel gives me a 404 message. I presume this will be cured by sorting out the .htaccess file of which I have several e.g. - /public_html/presta/prestashop/download/.htaccess. So, which bits to I remove?

Many many thanks

Eamonn

Hi again!

Thanks so much for your help. Unfortunately you are dealing with an idiot! Got in a bit of a mess with my database so as I'm not too far down the road with the shop (not open yet, thank God) decided to start again from scratch. Love learning but I hate the curve! Found your site very interesting by the way. Some great tips which I hope to incorporate at a later stage and I like the look of the carousel (looks mighty good value ;o). Townsville looks great too, but I'm a bit worried about the size of that spider!

Big thanks

Have a great weekend
