This feature will be integrated in time for PrestaShop v1.0, and will part of the new default theme. Navigating via subcategories will indeed be more user-friendly. In the Back Office, the shop owner will be able to determine the level of subcategory depth; if for example the shop has 8 different subcategory levels, it could adversely affect the display of all categories within the Category block.
