[SOLVED] can't change prices via SQL on ps_product.price

I'm getting ready for Black Friday, when I will be putting thousands of items on sale prices for the weekend.  I developed some PHP automation to update and roll back the prices.

 

I found that if you update the price field in ps_product table, nothing happens.  The previous price continues to be displayed in both front and back office.

 

Turns out, you also have to update the price field in ps_product_shop table.

 

ps_product_shop duplicates several fields from ps_product, including not only price but also id_category_default.  Where there is a discrepancy between ps_product and ps_product_shop, ps_product_shop seems to always win.  This can drive you crazy when you update the values in ps_product and nothing happens.
