Error in fr language links

Hi , 

I have an online store with two languages Arabic and french , the default language for the store is Arabic and it works fine by enabling Friendly URLs . 

the problem is when I switch to french it adds a 

fr/

on the links . 

for example the right URL of a category should looks like : 

http://dev.mystore.com/17-enfants-

but its displayed like : 

http://dev.mystore.com/fr/17-enfants-

please help I have tried to use .htaccess in order to delete that "fr " from links but it doesn't woks .
