PS 1.6 - $page_name set to product on every page - What core files could cause this?

Hello,

 

I have a slightly modified PS 1.6 install that is live and I recently noticed the $page_name variable is set to 'product' on every page I checked.  Im sure this was caused by a modified file, just have not found it yet.   Anyone have a suggestions on what file to verify where this variable could be set/modified so save me time of checking everything?
