Removing required fields and an error

I'm trying to remove the required field for zip code, as we do not have zip codes in Ireland.

I've tried commenting out that section under - orders-opc-new-account.tpl but its still coming up

I've tried changing that field from zip code to county but get the message -

 

There is 2 Error(s):

1.address(2) is required
2. other is required

 

Would some of you kind wiser people tell me how to remove the required field fom zip code?
I'm going insane trying to solve this!

Just a thought, what happens if you go to:

 

Back office > Localization > Countries > (choose your country) > Edit > click "No" for postcodes

That did indeed remove the required field for postcode

 

I'm getting errors from the guest checkout option, Scnshot2.jpg -

I can see the fields it is asking for under create account, but I cannot progress on guest checkout with these field
