Blocktopmenu addon active link problem

Hi, I am using the default blocktopmenu addon which is fine but I ran into an issue. I disabled the dropdown because I do not want to show categories in the top menu just a main "Product" menu link which links to the root category. The link works fine however it will not get the sfHover class when clicked which is a big problem for me. I checkked solutions for this but I did not find any working one to this yet. Anyone could please help me out? Thank you!

In the blocktopmenu settings I added a link to the menu from the category list (Root category). I tried custom link to a category but that didnt work either. To be honest its a bit hard to see the best option to do this.

 

What I have at the moment is this:

 

"Products" menu (in the top menu) which is a link to the home page/root category but I have overwritten the index controller to redirect to the first category in my catalog. I have a couple more menu items for pages and those work (those get the sfHover class when clicked), only this one doesnt seem to work. I tried to set the original state back, having a home page with slider and a different product page, but it did not resolve the issue. I tried this because before I added cms pages to the menu it actually worked as intended and the links got their sfHover class, but since then it doesnt work.
