Adding custom text box in product attributes

Hi,

I am want to add a box for my customers to be able to input a number, i have tried doing this as a drop down but seems to be too big and it would be much easier if the customer just input this, it would also need to be a required item.

There is the option for adding a custom field but it falls at the bottom of the product page which is no good.

I have attached an image of the area i am talking about

 

If this is possible i want it to fall above the 'Add to Cart"

any luck on this as I need to do the same and include a calendar/date picker so customers can answer a few questions and select a date.

No sadly i didn't solve this i ended up using the product customisation option which sits at the bottom of the page.

Just in case someone answers this forum issue or can recommended an add-on module - This is what I need to do as clients are booking & buying tours, activities and attractions.
