Can I have multiple stores in one Platform ?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of starting a a chain of online stores and was wondering if I could host all the different stores separately in Prestashop by on the same website as they will go by different names by geographic location.

I mean when user comes to my site they select their location , and they will see the list of stores near them and then start browsing the store of that particular location as its a separate entity from the other stores

is this possbile ??

prestashop allows to create "multistore" shop.

more informations here : http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS16/The+multistore+interface

Thanx... so from what I'm seeing I can even host multiple clients.. each client manages his shop with full security of not being able to delete / modify other client/shops data? All shops can be turned into different cleints.. ? and is secure?

Did you come right with this?

I would be looking to potentially have one multi tenant instance so as many stores as possible each with their own front end web store and each with their own administrative back end. Then this would be easily maintained when PrestaShop release platform updates.

How many stores were you able to provision like this?

No, at the time I didnt know alot abt how these ecommerce systems work. however after a month of reading about them i believe this is how the following terms mean

1. Multistore - one instance of an ecommerce platform installation but can be protrayed in diffrent manners like the same store can have different looks with products for different locations (you need to cross check this with any ecommerce you plan to use not only prestashop). Assuming this feature didnt exist i checked with a few webhosts who claim they give unlimited free space and unliited subdomains... i would go with the option of installing different instances of the e-commerce platform.. but again.. that could slow down the server or ur website... due to shared limited resources..but was a risk willing to take

2. Multi Vendor / Market Place- This is what I was more interested in, this allows users to sign up on your site and start selling their products just like ebay/amazon and you take ur commission. However after reading about all the major e-commerce platforms like prestashop , magento, open cart, zen cart, woocommerce etc etc they all dont have this feature natively. If you want this feature you need to normally purchase an addon or alternatively if you are a programmer do the coding for yourself.

As im not a programmer and on low budget I have decided to go for open cart .. its more organised , simple , hassle free...easily get web programmers who understand that system.. addons are regularly updated good themes and appealing its even fast. Im not saying prestashop is bad.. infact its really good but you may want something which is regularly updated and maintained incase there is a security flow.. also i believe its much heavier / slow compared to open cart unless u got dedicate hosting... but the most which put me of is some poor outdated addons and lack of good developers compared to open cart.. magento.. is great.. but just too heavy.. and for someone like you planning a simple store.. i would suggest you go read more about opencart vs competition... and the avaiilable themes, addons, simplicity of use and a ton of good addons.

also look at an ecommerce website which sells products maybe for some reason you have a vision you would like your store to mimick it or you are expecting you store to look like it.. copy its addresss and paste it in this website

if its using any of the standard ecommerce platforms it will tell you on what framework/ ecommerce platform it is running on.. and from there you can get an idea of how a particular platform feels, look, responds, or how capable it can be... but this should not be the ultimate base for you decision making in selecting a platform
