change page max-width without breaking responsiveness

Hello everybody,

I've a question that maybe somebody can answer..

How could I change the global shop page max-width without breaking the responsiveness?

for now I'v tried changing the:
#page {
max-width: 980px;

}

 

but that doesn't work and I'm not use to make things responsive : /

 

-prestashop 1.6

-default theme
