CSV import: Confusing width, depth, height terms!

Recommended Posts

I recently upgraded to 1.5.6.2 after learning that the Product csv import allows you to enter the width, height, depth and weight for the package of each item within an item's Shipping tab.

The terms they use are CONFUSING!

I'm used to terms used here in the U.S., as found on the USPS website here:

http://postcalc.usps.com/PackageProperties.aspx?m=7&p=3&o=0&dz=95991&oz=95948&pob=0&MailingDate=8/25/2014&MailingTime=8:00%20AM&rgt=0&live=0

We simply use Length x Width x Height for a box.

The Product csv file has columns labeled Width, Height, Depth.

But if you go into an item's Shipping tab in BO, you have Width, Length, and Depth for a package.

So, I did a csv import test with just one item. Here's what PS did:

It mapped Width (csv file) to Width (package) in the Shipping tab.

It mapped Height (csv file) to Length (package) in the Shipping tab.

It mapped Depth (csv file) to Depth (package) in the Shipping tab.

That's so confusing.

Based on the Length x Width x Height model as found on the USPS website, I take it that Width in the Shipping tab will match up with the Width of a box (as found on the USPS sample on their website); Length will match up with Length of a box; but Depth will be the Height?

I just hope that doesn't affect shipping rates and such.

Anyone have any insights into this?

Thank you.
