Duplicating categories inside backoffice

Whenever I change a category image in the backoffice and click save, the category i'm working on duplicates in the category list.(Please see attached image)

 

I have done my research an now understand this happens because there is a new record added to the db in the table category_shop which gives the category a new position.

 

Half the problem is solved, my question is how do i stop prestashop from creating this record every time a click save on a category
