is this possible?

Recommended Posts

Hi

Is this possible?

Install Prestashop 1.6.x

backup products, categories etc from existing 1.5.x store and import that in the 1.6 setup (which is on different server that will be used after finishing it)

when the new setup and template design is finished, import the customers and orders in the new setup, change the dns settings and go live with new site

or is that not possible ?

Hi Vekia

Thanks...

I have the problem that the current shop is active on a server. It is running 1.5.x

that server is slow and i need to move it to a new server

but i also need to update PS to 1.6 AND customize a template for that (to be able to customize the template i would prefer to do so with current categories, products etc.)... and i need to check if all important modules like for payment and shipping will work in 1.6

of course the client does not want downtime

How would you do that?

should i need to install 1.5 on new server in test environment,

> create backup from live shop and

> import that in 1.5 on new server

> update that to 1.6

> install theme and needed modules

> customize the hell out of it :P

> when finished change dns so it points to new server

> update the now old shop to 1.6

> backup customer data and order data and import that also in the new shop

is that correct or do you advice another route?

you may find the 'manual' upgrade documentation and overall upgrade document useful

http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS16/Manual+update

note: manual upgrades are for 'advanced' users, I think this means back everything up before trying...note: back up back up back up

Hello El Patron and Vekia,

I have a question. On previous post (if I understood right), Vekia is saying you cant donwload a data-base from PS 1.5 and upload to PS 1.6 (not sure as I think there's a typing error as he writes "you can't import database from prestashop 1.6 due to the differencies in database" ; but I guess he's meaning 1.5) however in the tutorial to create the new data-base it says to use the data-base backed up of PS 1.5, so I am little puzzled.

I am considering to do the same as automatic update didn't work for my shop but what' the best practice to import dbase ?

Should I:

- After back up, upgrade production from PS 1.5 to PS 1.6; then do another data-base back up to be used to upload on the new created data-base will be used on the "fresh" PS 1.6 that will run the shop

or

- Just back up PS 1.5 data-base (without any upgrade) and upload it as it is on the "fresh" PS 1.6 that will run the shop

Hi Mferno

as far as i understand you have to back everything up,

download it to local or online testdomain,

there you can update it to latest version and test to check if everything is working ok

if it's ok, you can safely update your live store
