Modules not showing in right column on product page and product list page

I am in the process of upgrading from 1.5.xx to 1.6 and all is going well except that the modules that I have hooked to "displayRightColumn" do not show up on the product page or the product list page, yet they do on the home page and the order summary page. The same combination of modules worked fine in the old version - and still does shop dot martelldesigns dot co dot uk) but it defeats me as to why it does not work in 1.6 (test dot martelldesigns dot co dot uk)

Try to recompile theme and clear cache in Advanced parameters > performance

I have force compilation turned on and have tried clearing cache and viewing in different browsers

Have you turned on right column in Preferences > Themes and made right column visible in desired pages?

No I had not as I did not realise that was here. It looks as though the "category" and "product" entires here are disabled which sound like the right ones, BUT when I try to enable them, I get "an error occurred while updating this meta" - see attachment. If I try to enable any of the disabled ones, I get this message, but if I try to toggle any that are currently enabled, they work ok. Do you have any idea what could be causing this.

Ah ha, now that I have the error message, there was something to search on. Although my problem was with the right column, I found this thread in this superb forum. As is so often the case, Vekia had the answer neatly documented.

 

All working now and I think that is us ready to try the update on the live shop now.....
