lighthouseweb
is there a way to say use Canada Post, UPS or any other Shipping mod And only put in a product weight in? and not use the Dimensions. As most of you already know - that say for example i have a Horse Pad that is 40inches long by 20 wide by 3 inches Hight.. and weights 10 lbs.. As i know the Shipping mods will then use all the calculations to give me the rate.. But how this can hurt my client is that the blanket is 4o inches long but say on Canada post 40 inches is in there oversized. So it would charge the user say $100 But As i know its a blanket so you can shove it in a box that is now only 20x20x3 and the weight is still 10 lbs.. And now the shipping is like $50 (exaggeration on this stuff) As we are in Canada - we are going to charge a flat fee for different pricing and our issues comes to the USA and Europe. As we have only 5000 items that we can't get all the dimensions for them as they are hard to judge how it is.. As canada post you need all the dimensions as then the program will tell you what box to put it in and that where it gets confusing Just curious how other are doing this.. as i know there has to be a easy way and not complicate stuff thanks
JRR
No, Canada Post and all other carriers use Volumetric Weight to calculate the weight of your package, rather than the other way around. You see the size of the box is what tends to fix the shipping costs - the volumetric part kicks in so that a box of a certain size is classified as a certain weight based on its volume. Only if the box is heavier than the volumetric weight does the weight of the box actually affect the shipping cost. Canada Post has a Volmetric Weight info on the site, you just have to huunt a bit for it. As for your blankets, you can fold them, right? So just find the smallest box that can take the blanket folded as small as possible and you will then have the least expensive shipping size. Note that the blanket may weigh more than the Volumetric Weight, but that cost doesn't go up as fast as a bigger box would. Hope that makes sense!
