Changing domain name question

hello,

 

Ive been wanting to change the domain name for my shop, after reading as many previous post as i could i have done the following:

 

(both old and new domains are hosted by the same company)

 

1) a backup of the database to my pc

2) have copied all files and folders from the old domain to the new one (but not the database)

3) I have changed the URL's in backoffice

4) regenerated the htaccess file.

 

As both domians are still online I have not had to change the database location and the site seems to run as normal. If i type the old domain name into the address bar I get directed to the new domain (which is unexpected but am happy about)

 

The question is what do I do about the database - if I add a new database named the same as the old, wont this cause problems?? or do I just host the two websites?

 

basicially where do I proceed from here?
