steve02cal
Hello - I am new to using Prestashop 1.5.6. I have been in the Computer Industry for over 40 years, and have had my own Website business for 15 years. I've recently decided to overhaul my website and move to Prestashop v1.5.6 due to it's flexibility and great options. I've reviewed many other shopping carts and feel that Prestashop v1.5.6 offers the most options. Currently I am having issues with Virtual Products and could use some assistance / feedback as to what I'm doing wrong. I cannot get the Virtual Products to work on my system. I have gone thru the complete product description filling in all the information and selecting that it is a virtual product. When it comes to the poing of "uploading" my file, it appears that Prestashop v1.5.6 just hangs... the LOADING messages just stays on the screen with nothing happening in the background. I've gone to my website and looked at the "download" directory where the product is to be loaded, and nothing appears. After waiting for 30 minutes, ( the file is only 5mb in size... so very small ), I cancel out of the process, and delete my product. Next time, I start all over with a different product name, go thru the definining and this time I upload the product myself, to the download directory. This works, and my product now shows up as being available. I go thru the "order" process of ordering the virtual product. This works, I get the necessary emails. I process the order and receive the email notification with the "link" to download my product. This is where it is now failing. When I click on the "link" the first message I get is "The file no longer exists", and it immediately opens my store to the home page. No matter what I try I am unable to download the virtual product. I'm not certain what I need to do to get this feature to function. Any assistance / suggestions / hints would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time in reading my request.
El Patron
Hi and welcome! Yes, ps is dreamy, built with multicountry/lang/currency...and now getting good press in the eeuu! My first thought is permissions to folder from website..what is the download folder permissions?
steve02cal
Hi El - Thank you for the quick reply. I did not setup any permissions for the Download folder. I relied on Prestashop 1.5.6 to setup the permissions. Checking I see they are set to 755. Should the be set differently? I also see an htaccess file created by Prestashop 1.5.6 Inside this file I see the following: Order deny, allow Deny from all Again I did not setup these permissions, they were setup by Prestashop 1.5.
El Patron
that should be 'perfect'. the files should be 644 rename the .htaccess and retest and let us know if that made any difference...if it does...then I suspect your file system owner does not match your url... steve02cal
Hi El - OK.... I renamed the htaccess file, and re-did the test. It still produces the same error "The file no longer exists", and takes me back to he home page.... I left the directory set to 755 and did not change it's attributes. steve02cal
Hello El - Thank you !!! I appreciate your suggestions so far. I'm at a total loss. I just went to another shop, that runs Prestashop 1.5.6 and ordered one of their FREE modules. I received all the emails from them, including the one with the LINK to the download product. Funny thing happened.... their email shows the product, but does not provide a LINK. I looked at the source of the email and the link is there but not turned on.... so looks like there might be 2 different problems. At least with mine, I get the email, and the LINK is good, but the error message says "The file no longer exists".... really strange. Thanks again for your assistance. Hopefully someone will find a solution ?????
El Patron
I've had loads of success but I am still running older version. I did some searches for your release but could not find anything close to describing your issue. Please let us know how it goes...
El Patron
try this, turn on errors and then try uploading virtual from back office to see if there is any error http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/224525-how-to-turn-on-error-reporting-for-debug-information/
steve02cal
I have another question: When I installed Prestashop, I was never prompted for any Website Information, such as Userid/PW. How does Prestashop know the credentials to use when uploading pictures, or products to my website? Is there an area where this should have been specified? Could that be the problem? Additional thought...... I went back and uploaded pictures and they upload with no issues. So now I'm completely confused as to where Prestashop gets the credentials to use whenever uplaoding information to my website. Thank youa gain for all the assistance !!!!! El Patron
prestashop is going to run as 'your url', which should be the 'owner' of your files. now I am wondering if you have a incompatible file...can you download this file (in the post), no need to load in your shop (though it's a nice to have) http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/278164-free-module-display-php-environment-13-14-15/ and then try attaching to your product as a virtual file. steve02cal
OK..... that worked !!!!! I was able to upload to my website, and process..... The order worked, and the link was VALID. Everything processed successfully. I guess my next question is what types of Virtual Products can I specify? My original test was using a PDF document.... That is what I wanted to download. Using your ZIP file worked perfectly. Is there a list somewhere that specifies what types of Virtual Files I can download? I assumed I download anything...... but I could be wrong. I just need to find out what types of files I can specify, and to find out why a PDF document does not work. Thank you again for the assistance !!!!! At least now I can get the ZIP to work..... Definitely making progress !!!!!
El Patron
from what I can tell, by reading the doc is that a .pdf should work. as one can have a variety of downloadable products, tickets etc. I don't know why you are having this issue. http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS15/Adding+Products+and+Product+Categories#AddingProductsandProductCategories-CreatingaVirtualProduct little by little...all good things take hard work... steve02cal
Hi EL - I went back thru my php.ini file to see about the maximum sizes and they are both set to 128M so I can't see where a 5M file would have a problem. I validated this with my Host Provider. I will have to play around with other files and see what happens. I tried another PDF upload, that was only 250KB and it worked with no issues. So this tells me that a PDF document is good to go. I guess my next plan will be to build some sort of file up to 5M and see if in fact it's still a size issue. At least today you have "shed" a lot of light on the situation and I am very grateful for your assistance !!! This is why I like using forums, because you can always count on quality assistance !!!!! Again, thank you for your assistance today. It has been greaty appreciated !!!!
Dh42
One thing you might look into is server resources. When Prestashop uploads a file, it moves it and renames it. I recently had to do a 1.6gb file and I could barely do it. I had to devote 8gb of ram and all 8 cores on the dedicated server it was running on to do it. It took several tries before it worked out as well.
