What is the difference between developer and standard PS versions?

Hi,

Because I cant post in News and Releases section of the Forums I will post my q here:

 

I was wondering what is the difference between developing version and regular (standard) version of Prestashop software? 

For example, I want to install vanilla 1.5.6.1 version but I got dev. version from the Gregory on the Forge.

Is there some difference between that version and the one I can download from the PS website?
