After changing an URL, should the old link automatically redirect?

I notice that if I change the url of a product or a category, the old links does not work anymore. The strange thing is that I think this has been working in the past.

 

Can someone help me understand what to expect from prestashop here. Say that I just change the name of a category, should Prestashop then automatically remember that it was used to be called a name and redirect to the new location?

 

For instance on my testsite I had this category:

http://perf2.givensa.com/es/gadgets

 

Then I changed the category name to:

http://perf2.givensa.com/es/gadgetsandmore

 

and now the first link ends up with a 404. Is this normal?

 

If its not, does anyone have an idea on what might be the problem. Indeed we do use a module called Pretty Url that removes the id´s from the links and that might also be the problem but I am not sure. Any help on where to start looking and what to expect from Prestashop is very welcome.

After testing some more it seems as when turning off the URL module so the id´s are visible again old links redirect correctly.

 

Anyone has experiences from these url rewrite modules. I love the way the new url look without the id´s but old links can not break.
