'Availability' shows on mobile, even though it's turned off

HI Folks,

 

We have 'Availability' switched off and so the text 'this product is no longer in stock' does not show on the website when viewed in a browser window but the message appears  when viewed from a mobile phone.

 

Adding the item to the cart on the mobile works fine, but obviously customers think we are out of stock!

 

We are not using stock control or any other features related to stock levels.

 

Is there a method of stopping the stock status (availability) appearing on the optimised for mobile theme?
