I find for some modifications that implies writing on admin templates, overriding Controllers may be better done following some simple instructions. For example in PS when you make some code override in the module installation if some "collisions" with other code arise, PS simply won't warn you and won't manage the merge of the code with the consequent failure of the module. There are modifications that are better done manually in Prestashop and keep them well documented. You have a PM. I did something quick and dirty with a controller override like you mention. There are a couple other pending SOWs that I still need completed if you have some time and would like to respond.
