newsblock module on homepage

Hi,

 

I am an experienced web developer (more graphics than code mind you) and new to prestashop. I'm using the latest version and have installed velvet sky theme, which has a single column design for the homepage. It looks great but the newsletter block will not appear. I've gone back to the default theme, where it appears in the left hand column, and tried to move the newsletter block into the central column using live edit but it won't let me. Transplanting hook in back office won't let me move it either.

 

I'm reluctant to start thrashing through the prestashop folders as it's labaryinthine.

 

Does anyone know which pages to edit to get the newsletter block into the homepage central column ( under image slider,combo slider, & block advertising ) but above the footer ?
